Avatar politically beat out by Hurt Locker

As we all expected Hurt Locker took home the big prize over throwing the amazing “Avatar” film. Now the big question I ask, “Does the film deserve it?” In my opinion the film deserved some of it’s rewards, but not the biggest two. Hurt Locker took home six Oscars last night. I agreed with almost all the choices that the Oscars made, besides four Oscars that went to Hurt Locker. I do not believe they should have received “Best Picture”,”Best Director”, “Best Sound Mixing”, and “Best Sound.”

So why do I not believe this film was worthy? First, the film was very inaccurate and insulted a lot of us who have been over there. I never saw anyone drinking and getting drunk over there then going to work. It is unlawful to have alcohol at any of the bases in the middle east. Second, I have spoken to a few of my EOD friends and they do not do all the raiding of houses and so on. When they actually do work, they are escorted to the bomb site by infantry men, and then will work on the bomb. There are many more inaccuracies, but I am not spending this entire post on that.

Just think about it, twenty to thirty years down the road, what film will you remember? Avatar I believe deserved “Best Picture and Best Director.” James Cameron came up with the vision of Avatar and the whole concept of it. Some one else wrote and came up with the idea for “Hurt Locker.” Katheryn Bigelow just had to sit behind the camera and give direction. Avatar deserved “Best Picture” because it will be remembered, while Hurt Locker was a boring film and will be forgotten. Avatar’s technology and film making were revolutionary and we are already seeing that now. The film will be known as a turning point for the new 3d films that will be coming for the next several years.

Anyways, all the awards are political. Hurt Locker campaigned more for their film while Avatar did not. We all know how well Avatar is doing, and to me they are the winner in the long run. I mean Star Wars and E.T. lost too, but they are all remembered.
